Hare scrambles newcomers guide

Hare scrambles, Hare and Hounds, Multi lap Enduro, X Country  are more relaxed than motocross races, more competitive than trail riding, the blend of the two, makes the exciting sport of X Country racing!

Getting started

Bikes for X Country racing  mx, enduro and even trail bikes can be used, lights are not required, bikes must be able to pass scrutineering, and be well silenced, race numbers must be clear and on three sides.

Clothing & Equipment: Protective boots and clothing must be worn, along with an acu gold stamped helmet, you will need enough fuel for the race which will be 2.5 or 3 hours. Some tools for on going repairs, sports drinks and food, all this can be placed in the refueling area, you as the rider can come into the refueling area when ever you want during a race, it is strongly recomended that the rider uses a drinks system such as a camel back which allows the rider to take a drink while riding.

The courses are of mixed terrain but are always rideable even for the less experienced rider, for the more experienced rider we have extreme sections, this is a more demanding section which will save time over the normal route.

The courses are very well marked, using dayglo orange arrows and track tape. Never ride against the course, if you want to retire find a marshall who will help you get back to the start.

We use a transponder system for lap scoring, consisting of a wrist band which must be worn on the riders right wrist, as you come in at the end of each lap, you come into a lap scoring area, were you pass the wrist band across the reader, a light will flash indicating your lap has been scored, there are lap scoring marshalls to help. The courses vary in duration from 12mins to 25 mins. Provisional results are available on the day. You must return your wrist band at the end of the race or if you retire.
